It seems that our elderly Nordhavn is becoming famous. There are more and more Facebook posts that have pictures of her included, even if some are a bit "remote". As an example, this one was sent to us by Morris, the Stornoway ship's captain chap. It was posted in Facebook by an Aerial photography business - you can play spot the Nordhavn:
Then there was an image from our time in Lochboisdale Harbour, posted by Lochboisdale Cafe for some reason:
We also got star billing on the Penarth Marina Facebook page a while ago, heading out through the lock on a nice November morning:
You can see the winter "topless" look - the bimini cover was taken off to avoid damage in the gales!
We even starred in an earlier Penarth Marina Facebook post, made upon arrival in Penarth for our second winter there:
See, fame indeed. As if that lot isn't enough, you can also see the boat as one of the banner pictures on the Nordhavn Europe Website. Watch the images roll around and spot us on a mooring buoy off Tobermory and then a picture of Patrick on watch heading into a glorious sunrise off Guernsey.
Fame indeed. Think we should start to charge royalties and for giving TGT's (the guided tour).
By the way, our previous comments on the potentially Mossad employed reader from Israel seem to have either scared them off or forced them to spoof their country of origin. No more reads from Israel since we mentioned it. The Chinese accesses continue unabated of course. Come on, post a message and let us know who you are! The average read rate of 1500 per month continues so we had better keep churning out this stuff. Otherwise people might turn to doing something mind improving instead.
About us and the boat
About us and the boat:
We were lucky enough to retire early at the start of 2013 so we could head off and "live the dream" on board our Nordhavn 47 Trawler Yacht. The idea is to see some of the planet, at a slow 6 - 7 knots pace. There are no fixed goals or timings, we just had a plan to visit Scotland and then probably the Baltic before heading south.
The idea is to visit the nicer areas in these latitudes before heading south for warmer weather. If we like somewhere, we will stay for a while. If not, we will just move on. So, for the people who love forward planning and targets, this might seem a little relaxed!

If anyone else is contemplating a trawler yacht life, maybe our experiences will be enough to make you think again, or maybe do it sooner then you intended!
The boat is called Rockland and she is built for long distance cruising and a comfortable life on board too. If you want to see more about trawler yachts and the Nordhavn 47 in particular, there is a link to the manufacturers website in our "useful stuff" section. For the technically minded, there is a little info and pictures of the boat and equipment in the same section
Regards
Richard and June
